Coloring Your Eyebrows With Eyeshadow

There are many techniques, methods, and variations on coloring your eyebrow like the watercolor method.
Though, this one is the easiest for me xD
Some people use glue instead of concealer, but I haven't tried that yet.

To tell you the truth, I haven't done this during on a con but I did it once in a photoshoot, but I never got the pictures. Orz

Anyway...

To start off, you'll only be needing 2 things:

  • Concealer
  • eyeshadow

Le moi with untouched eyebrows~

Apply concealer to your eyebrows~
Make sure only a little or no hair at all is visible. That means you have to apply a heavy amount of concealer.

After being satisfied, you'll now notice that my eyebrow is not all that visible compared to the untouched one.
You may now apply the eyeshadow~
Begin by tracing the edges of your eyebrow.
It also depends on you if you want to have heavy application or only little. Either way it can easily come off.
I'm pretty sure I don't have to be detailed on that part.

After applying the eyeshadow, remove the excess by using tissue or make-up remover.
You can also just apply concealer over it and smudge it if you're a bit lazy.

Viola~
Now compare my eyebrow with the method and w/o~

That's all~Hope I helped xD

Basic Crossplay Make-up For Girls

Ohai female reader~

So you want to know how to do the basics of crossplay make-up? Well, this is how I do it. xD

You guys might wonder why we need to do those steps. I'll enumerate it for you~
It's because guys have:
  • darker skin tone
  • longer/prominent nose
  • Their face is more of a "V" shape
  • Generally, their eyebrows is more thicker and "arched"
  • They have prominent jaw

Though, there are instances where they have different eye shape, brow shape, and whatnot from most of the guys.

Hair styling is also important but I won't discuss it anymore xD

This are the basic things you need:
  • Nude Lipstick/Concealer (or a combination of both)
  • Liquid Eyeliner
  • Eyeliner pencil(not shown here)
  • Contour palette(highlight and shadow)
  • Bronzer/eyeshadow that can be used for contouring

Le face with no contouring or whatsoever. I only applied the basics of make-up like concealer, foundation and moisturizer.

You'll be needing this also for making your eyebrows look thick. Try to choose brown tones instead of black because if you use the latter, it would look unnatural. I'm really sorry because I don't have any photos on applying this. Orz

I recommend you do the eyes first because if you screw up with applying the eyeliner, you have to wash it and do it again. The part with the brown tint inside is where you apply brown eyeshadow/bronzer. The line around your eyes is where you apply the liquid eyeliner.  Cosplayers do different styles so you may not totally follow this part of the tutorial.  After this you can now apply the eyeliner pencil on your eyebrows.

So after you apply those 3, you may now do the nose~

Note the difference between my picture on the top

The next step is applying shadow and highlights in your nose~
Apply shadow/bronzer.
You might want to spread it in the side of your nose for a "gradient" effect so it would not look too harsh but keep the "heavier" tone inside the encircled area. You'll also need to apply highlights in the middle of the nose.

I made the contour harsh in purpose so you would be able to see it.

For the last two parts, you will need to apply bronzer inside the marked area~
Make sure you also apply the "gradient" affect on your jaw and neck so that it would not look too harsh.

You might also want to make this part to be really slanted if you like~
and you may now apply the nude lipstick/concealer on your lips.
IMO using concealer makes your lips too pale so I also use nude lipstick to lighten in up a bit.
It looks like I also failed to take pics on that part. Orz

TADAAAA~
I hope you get the main idea in this tutorial on how to do the basic make-up for crossplaying guys~
I also hope that I didn't fail you guys.  =))

That's all~
Hope I helped :3

Wig dying with acrylic paint~

I recommend this method as a last resort.
Use this if you don't know how to use the sharpie method or if sharpie markers are too expensive for you. You can also use this if you can't see any sharpie markers with the color you want/prefer.
I have some warnings for you guys. After using this method, the texture of the wig might change and you wouldn't want to destroy your babies(wigs), right?
I dyed my Serah Farron wig because I'm not satisfied with the color, it's too light for me.

So here's what you need:
~Wig stand
~basin or something close to it (a basin that your mother won't get angry at you for using it)
~acrylic paint (be careful in choosing)
~newspaper (It's going to be a messy job)
~comb
~wig to be dyed

Check first the color if it's alright for you

Put your preferred amount of acrylic paint in the basin and add water.
Mix until the texture becomes something like this. It kinda looks plastic-ish.

Test out the color first in some few hidden strands.

Use the comb to "paint" your wig. I guess nobody wants a 1 hued wig xD

See the color difference? :D

For the curly part of wigs, I suggest that you just put the wig in the basin w/ the acrylic paint or you could do it by hand.

You can see the original color here:

Note:
This method is already known to some cosplayers~

That's all~Hope I helped

Beatrix Wig Tutorial

Bonjour~
After many trials and errors I now have been able to make those curls xD
The wig must be:
~Heat resistant
~60-80 cm
~Thick

You can have a much better Beatrix wig than me if your wig is REALLY THICK.
Unfortunately, Mine is semi-thick only so I wasn't able to fully create her big dynamic curls :<

So, this are some of the things you'll be needing:

~Blower          ~Hairspray          ~Wig stand          ~comb
~Brown paint           ~Scissors          ~wire(not visible)          ~pins
Not Shown in the pic:
~something you can use for rolling          ~Something you can use as a stand
STEPS:~

1. Make 6 sections, 3 on top and 3 at the bottom. It's to avoid a bulking lace and to avoid difficulty inserting the eye patch.

2. Get one section, comb it until it's free from any tangles then spray it with a bit of hairspray.

3. Roll 1 section of the hair with a use of something cylindrical or you may use your hands.
Place something that you can use as a stand and then spray again with a hairspray.

4. You may use the blower so it would heat up the wig. Wait for at least 25-35 seconds and then check if it's hard/sturdy enough.

5. Cut about 3-4 cm of wire.

6. Put some wires in the ends because those are some of the "weak points". You may add at the middle.

7. You might want to paint the wire before you place it, that's the mistake I made. xD
Anyway, pick a color that will blend w/ the wig.

8. If not in use, might as well store it with a wig cap and place it in a ziplock bag.

Crossplay tips (Gals and Guys)

Crossplay:

  •  (verb) A subset of cosplay; to wear a costume where the character in question is of the opposite sex as the cosplayer.                                                                                                                            - Cosplay.com thread ( http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=18966 )

What you need for crossplay?

For girls:

  • Bronzer
  • Chest binder (Either one of the FF: Bandage, cloth, garrison belt, compression shirt)
  • eyeliner
  • nude lipstick (you can also use concealer, but it tends to look too pale)

You put a bit of eyeliner to your eyebrows (Use a brown eyeliner if the character's hair color is black or brown. though, it also depends on the character)

You can also put some lines on the side of your eyes using eyeliner.

Apply bronzer to the FF areas: (again, it also depends on the character)
~Nose bridge
~Jaw line
~Upper cheek bone

Oh, don't forget to cut your fingernails~

If you want to be more convincing, you should walk like a guy. :D

BTW, there's a chance you'll look gay like me xD

My Crossplay tales:

An old trial pics for my Heisuke cosplay <3
I forgot to apply nude lipstick OTL
Soujiro Okita - Hakuouki

Soujiro Okita - Hakuouki

I think I look gay here xD
Cosplaying as Soujiro Seta

Me cosplaying as Heisuke ^^
Ugh, I hate the way I tied the yellow part </3

For guys:
  • Falsies (For bigger eyes. But this is optional)
  • make-up
  • lipstick (Any color that resembles natural female lips)
  • Bra and pads

If you have hairy legs and you don't want to shave it, you can use skin tone stockings to make your legs more slender. (I think guys has better legs than females minus the hair)

Wear a bra. You might want to put pads in it. xD

to be more convincing, walk like a girl. that means swaying your hips(naturally) when walking
and keeping your legs together when sitting.

and ermmm, no awkward or unwanted bulges. =))

Here are some crossplays done by:

  JL Rochefort Lavarias

mina majikina - samurai shodown

Lili Rochefort from Tekken

 Marky (Sheryl Nome)

Chacha from Akazukin Chacha

Sheryl Nome from Macross Frontier

Dispel the Shininess of Shiny wigs

Have you ever wondered if you can remove the shininess of your wig? fortunately you can!

It's just plain and simple~

What you need:
~Vinegar
~basin (A basin that your mother doesn't use or your mother might get angry xD )
~baking powder or baby powder

Procedure:

1.) Put your wig in the basin, then put some vinegar in it.

2.) Let its magic begin.~

3.) Leave it for at least 12 hours. (EDIT: okay, so 30 mins. is fine) xD

4.) After that, remove the wig from the basin, rinse it with water to remove the smell of the vinegar.

5.) Apply the baking powder/baby powder.

I did this to one of my wigs.
Here's the before and after pics (w/ flash and w/o flash)

The wig before~
dull and shiny

The wig after~
It looks soooo preeeeetty *A*

That's all!
Hope I helped at least a little bit xD

Cure Cards

Only a few cosplayers in the Philippines have their own cure cards. I hope it'll become a trend here.

Cure cards are like business cards. It let's you to keep in touch with the person.

Anyway, here are examples of cure cards:

My 2nd batch of cure cards.

Okay, so how could you make them?
Easy, go to adobe photoshop (I'm using CS4).

But wait, what if you're a noob at photoshop?
Don't worry, I have a basic step by step procedure for you to follow. Hehehe.

Upload your picture, then go to Image and click Image size.
This should be the standard size for your cure card:

For landscape

Or this.

For portrait

As a rule of a thumb, you should always use resolutions 300 and above since you're going to print this.

And then click ok. then you could start editing.

Things you could put in your cure card:

  • Your name
  • Your alias (If you have one)
  • FB page (If you have one)
  • FB profile
  • Your e-mail
  • DevaintART account (If you have one)
  • Cure number (If you have a Cosplay Cure Account)
  • Photographer of the picture (Optional)
  • Your blog (If you have one)
And others...

I've seen different formats in creating cure cards. Others has a resolution of 350, and etc.

After having them printed, go get yourself a container for your cards.

I hope we could exchange cosplay cure cards in the future (If you'll be making one). :3
I wish I was a bit helpful to you xD
